Soroka named Southern League All-Star

OTTAWA-Although just 19 years old, Calgary’s Mike Soroka has accomplished a lot in his professional baseball career that is just shy of two years old.

The Junior National Team alum (2014, 2015) was named today to the South Division roster for the Southern League All-Star Game that will take place on Tuesday, June 20 at Blue Wahoos Stadium in Pensacola, Florida.

The right-hander, ranked as the 67th best prospect in baseball according to, was one of seven Mississippi Braves’ players to be named to the South Division squad including fellow 19 year-old pitching sensation Kolby Allard who’s also on the list at #45.

A first round pick (28th overall) by the Atlanta Braves in 2015, Soroka is one of the youngest players in the Double-A Southern League yet is tied for first in the loop with seven wins, while his 2.73 ERA and 1.02 WHIP are among the top ten in the league.

In his most recent out on June 5th, Soroka tossed eight shutout innings, scattered just three his and fanned nine in a win over Biloxi. He has recorded wins in each of his last five starts.

Prior to this season, Soroka spent his first full professional season in 2016 with Low-A Rome where he helped the Braves win the South Atlantic League championships, while also getting an All-Star nod.

Soroka joined the Junior National Team program in the fall of 2013 before helping Canada win a bronze medal at the 2014 U-18 Pan Am Championships in La Paz, Mexico.
